Opening statement
I have invited you to take part in this study about concussions in rugby with the objective of understanding current knowledge and practices presented by coaches on concussions and strategies on how best to educate coaches on how to handle concussions safely and effectively
Why have you asked me to take part?
I have selected rugby coaches located in surrey to compare their knowledge and experiences with other coaches outside of the county to get insight into surreys sub-cultural attitude towards concussions.
Do I have to take part?
Taking part in this study is your decision to make. This information sheet and the consent form is yours to keep if you wish to participate in this study. At any point during, you may withdraw from it without having to explain why. Also, any questions you wish not to answer can be left out
What will I be required to do?
You will be asked to fill in an online questionnaire around your knowledge and experience with concussions, and If you are willing and selected, a zoom call interview to further discuss your personal experience with concussions
Where will this take place?
The questionnaire will be available to access online and interviews will be conducted over zoom calls. Wherever you have a computer, you will be able to participate
How often will I have to take part, and for how long?
There will be one questionnaire to fill in that should take around 10 minutes and an optional interview over zoom between 30 – 45 minutes
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
Benefits include a revision of concussions and whether you find your own knowledge satisfactory or insufficient, especially if you take part in the interview where your knowledge can be examined to a greater degree.
Will anyone be able to connect me with what is recorded and reported?
All questions answered in questionnaires and statements made during interviews will be anonymous. Names will be changed and data will be kept secure on a drive only the researcher has permission to edit.
Who will be responsible for all of the information when this study is over?
Once all the information has been collected, responsibility will fall upon the researcher to keep it safe and secure, away from outside interference.
Who will have access to it?
The data will be stored on a Q Drive run by the university which only the researcher will be able to add and edit documents too. The staff will be able to view the documents but not edit them and other students will have no access.
What will happen to the information when this study is over?
Raw data will be kept until the completion of the study which is estimated to be completed late April 2022. Afterwards, the data will be deleted and only the anonymous data from the study will be left public.
How will you use what you find out?
The researcher will collect the data from the study, analyse the findings and make a report as to their interpretations. After which the university may wish to publicise the paper if believed to be of a high enough quality.
How long is the whole study likely to last?
The study is likely to between 1 – 2 weeks after which the results will be collected and analysed to be discussed in depth in the research paper
How can I find out about the results of the study?
